Research & Education

Design Reviewed is increasingly used as a reference point for the study of graphic design history.

The archive has appeared in university teaching and library resources and individual Design Reviewed records have been referenced in academic papers, dissertations and other research.

Rather than only directing readers to the archive as a whole, researchers increasingly cite individual artefacts and designer records, allowing material held by Design Reviewed to become part of wider research into visual and graphic design history.

Rochester Institute of Technology

Design Reviewed is recommended as an online resource within RIT’s library guide for GRDE 303 — The Untold History of Graphic Design.

The guide presents the archive as a resource providing designers, researchers and creatives with access to graphic design history.

An Archive for Research

Design Reviewed continues to document graphic design through original magazines, books, posters, catalogues and printed ephemera.

Making these objects searchable and connecting them to their designers, publishers, countries, movements and periods allows individual artefacts to become useful starting points for further research.

The growing number of references to Design Reviewed in teaching, academic research and independent design writing demonstrates another purpose for the collection: not simply preserving graphic design, but putting its history back into use.

This page will continue to document independent references to Design Reviewed as they are discovered.

If you have referenced Design Reviewed in a publication, research paper, course or project, please get in touch.
