
‘A lot of my work is based on a bi-coastal outlook,” says cover artist Mark Handel, a native Californian who was schooled at Yale and has worked on both the East and West coasts. Now the art director of Adix, a New York fashion and graphics magazine, Handel also freelances for Wet and CBS Records, where he used to be on staff. “I like to use common objects and bring them to other levels, he says of his compositions, which he usually creates by drawing on and coloring stock photos. Handel also has a penchant for type, a trait he picked up at Yale, “where type treatment was emphasized.’

Paul Rand, one of the most acclaimed American designers is known for his iconic corporate identities, playful illustration and commercial art. Paul wrote the preface for Yusaku Kamakura's book, Trademarks of the World, 1958. He states his influence of Japanese art and design, trademarks as a universal language and his struggles with English grammar.

Blase’s long-term clients were Staatstheater Kassel (Kassel State Theater) and Atlas Films. Karl Oskar Blase produced countless posters for these two organisations. It’s not surprising considering Blase designed posters for the Staatstheater for twelve years between 1966 and 1978.

The identity manual consisted of 130 pages of information and brand usage with Arie J. Geurts heading up the project as design director, (who later headed up his own design studio in Los Angeles). The identity uses minimal colour and focuses on a consistent brand blue in all communications.
