ITC Galliard, International Typeface Corporation (ITC), 1981

‘This beautiful contemporary adaptation of Robert Granjon’s dynamic 16th century design was drawn by Matthew Carter. Carter used a computer to add weights to complete the 20th century family. ITC Galliard was introduced by Mergenthaler Linotype Company in 1978 and now, through a licensing agreement, ITC is making this typeface family available to all ITC Subscribers. Designer Carter has captured the vitality of the original design in a contemporary large lowercase x-height, with neat letterfit redrawing. The roman as well as the italic letters are distinctive and beautiful and very readable in text settings.’
