This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition devoted to the work of the German artist Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) held at the Stadtische Kunsthalle, Dusseldorf from 15 January to 3 March 1971, which then toured to museums in Berlin, Stuttgart and Basel throughout the remainder of the year. The catalogue includes essays by Werner Schmalenbach, Wieland Schmied and Carola Giedion-Welcker.

Kurt Schwitters was a German artist, designer, and writer known for his work within the Dadaism movement and his collage work. He produced paintings, collages, sound pieces, sculpture and installation works, as well as journalism, criticism, poetry and short stories.
