Carlo Vivarelli spent four years apprenticing at a graphic art studio in Zurich. In 1939, he moved to Paris to study under Paul Colin and attended various art schools. In 1946, he became the art director at Studio Boggeri in Milan. The following year, he established his own studio in Zurich. Hans Neuburg was born in 1904 in Czechoslovakia and became a Swiss citizen in 1954. In 1939 he set up a pavilion at the national exhibition in Zurich, and from then worked on project design and graphics for exhibitions and shows. In 1958 he founded Neue Grafik with Lohse, Brockmann and Vivarelli. In 1960 he was elected president of the Swiss Graphic Arts Association and in 1963 vice-president of Icograda and received a position at the School of Creative Design in Ulm. Josef Müller-Brockmann was born in 1914 and began his professional career in 1936, after two years of graphic apprenticeship in Zurich and two years of advanced training at the local School of Applied Arts. He is one of the best known Swiss designers. In 1966, he published Grid Systems in Graphic Design, a seminal work that became a cornerstone of modern graphic design education. Richard Paul Lohse was a Swiss painter and graphic designer and one of the main artists related to the concrete and constructive art movements.
