Walter Ballmer spent many years designing in Milan. He was born in Liestal, Switzerland, in 1923 and in 1959 he set up the Olivetti Spazio Show-Room in Milan; the Stile Olivetti exhibition in various European cities (1961); the Wert und Haben sector of the Swiss national exhibition, in 1964; the Olivetti-innovates exhibition (Athens, Nairobi, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, in 1965) and the Olivetti image exhibition (1968) in Malmo, Lausanne, Zurich. He was awarded diplomas of merit (1954 Compasso d'Oro; Swiss National Exhibition, 1964 and 1971); he received the award for the best Swiss poster in 1961 and the gold medal in 1973.
