Karel Martens (cover)
Karel Martens is one of the most influential Dutch graphic designers. He is a co-founder of the Werkplaats Typografie and works across designing and teaching. His work includes designing books, magazines, coins, postage stamps and telephone cards. 'His work is both personal and experimental. At the same time, it is publicly answerable.' Explore the Design Reviewed archive to discover artefacts connected to Karel Martens' distinctive approach to print and typography. The Dutch Modernism collection captures the tradition he has worked within and extended throughout his career, while the Netherlands archive reflects the broader design culture he remains central to. Browse the 1970s and 1980s decade pages to find work from earlier in his career, or explore the OASE journal series to discover the architectural publication he designed for over many years.
