Rostislav Vaněk
Rostislav Vaněk (born 1945) is a Czech graphic designer whose work spans posters, book design, exhibition graphics, and audiovisual communication. Educated in Prague, he began his career assisting at the School of Arts before moving into publishing, contributing to the visual output of Czechoslovak cultural institutions. His work is rooted in modernist principles, combining geometric structure with experimental typography and tonal imagery, particularly in his exhibition posters, which balance abstraction with clarity. Exhibited internationally, including at the Leipzig Book Fair and poster biennials in Brno and Warsaw, Vaněk represents a generation of Eastern European designers who developed distinct and innovative approaches within state-supported systems. Little is known about the designer Günther Heil. he established his graphic studio in Berlin and designed many advertisements for 8mm and 16mm film distributor Bruno Schmidt in the 1960s. These were created in the same era as the film distributor Atlas Films was sending films to art-house theatres and were hiring designers Hans Hillmann, Hans Michel, Günther Kieser, Wolfgang Schmidt and Karl Oskar Blase.
