Herbert Spencer
Herbert Spencer was a professional designer and Senior Research Fellow at the Royal College of Art in London, where he headed a study group engaged in research into the legibility of print. Spencer edited and authored books on typography and graphic design. He also founded the magazine  Typographica, which he edited until 1967. He was editor of the Penrose Annual from 1964 to 1973, and president of the AGI from 1971 to 1974. Explore related designers including Anthony Froshaug and Ken Garland. Imre Reiner trained in Hungary as a sculptor. In 1920 he moved to Germany, where he studied graphic art under Ernst Schneidler at the Akademie für Bildende Kunst in Stuttgart. He has lived in Switzerland from 1931 and illustrated, mainly with wood engravings, works of classical and contemporary authors. He was also a painter and exhibited  in Germany, Paris, Philadelphia, Chicago, São Paulo and at the Triennale in Milan. Explore related designers including Jan Tschichold and Hermann Zapf. Typographica
Typographica is Herbert Spencer’s highly-collectable British journal and one of the most influential mid-century graphic design publications. With both an old and new series published.

Erberto Carboni and his work for Radio Italiana, 1940s and 1950s

These one-colour forms have a playful but structured aesthetic through their geometric forms, they remind me of the abstract line drawings of Picasso blended with Jan Tschichold and the New Typography.
