Poland produced one of the most distinctive graphic design traditions of the twentieth century, the Polish School of Posters. The designers used metaphor, expression, and visual intelligence. Designers including Waldemar Świerzy, Franciszek Starowieyski, and Jan Lenica produced film and theatre posters of originality and many were celebrated at the Warsaw Poster Biennale from 1966 onwards.
