Alex Steinweiss was born in 1917 and was a pioneering graphic designer who revolutionised album cover art while working as Columbia Records’ first art director. He introduced illustrated album covers in 1938 and later developed the standard paperboard LP jacket, shaping the visual identity of recorded music for decades
