Erik Spiekermann is a German typographer, type designer, and graphic designer born in Stadthagen in 1947. He studied art history at the Free University of Berlin and worked as a freelance typographer in London before returning to Germany. In 1979 he founded MetaDesign, and in 1989 co-founded FontShop with his wife Joan. His typefaces include FF Meta, ITC Officina, and FF Info. He has designed corporate identity systems for Audi, Volkswagen, Deutsche Bahn, and the German postal service
