John Heartfield’s original name was Herzfelde studied painting for a year under Bouffier. In 1910 he went to Munich where he was greatly influenced by the poster artists Albert Weisgerber and Ludwig Hohlwein. Later he moved to Berlin and studied at the Kunst-und Hand-werkerschule.
