Les Mason studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles before moving to Australia in 1961. He founded Les Mason Graphic Design in South Melbourne in 1962, working as Design Director for Bowater-Scott Australia and as a creative consultant to agencies in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. He was commissioned in 1972 to design graphics, murals and signage for the National Art Gallery of Victoria, and in 1978 to design graphics and murals for the new Melbourne Underground Railway. He received awards from the Los Angeles ADC in 1957, 1962 and 1965, the Australian Gold Medal Export Award in 1969, and medals from the Melbourne ADC and the Australian Pulp and Paper Manufacturers.
